SPECIES COMPOSITION OF MACROBENTHIC MOLLUSCAN ASSEMBLAGES AT BANDRI BEACH JIWANI COAST, BALOCHISTAN, PAKISTAN (NORTHERN ARABIAN SEA)

Molluscan species composition, abundance and spatial distribution were analyzed during October 2014 to September 2015 along the Bandri Beach of Jiwani coast, Pakistan bordering Northern Arabian Sea. In this regards Bandri Beach was explored for the first time, there is no previously published literature or reports are available pertaining species composition records from the Bandri Beach area. Two sampling stations were selected for qualitative and quantitative assessment, of macro benthic molluscan diversity. In total 86 species representing 42 molluscan families comprised of 65 Gastropod species, 17 Bivalves, 2 Scaphopoda, 1 Polyplachopora and 1 species of Cephalopod were recorded. About 15–20 species including bivalves and gastropods were rarely found not only at Bandri Beach as well reports of occurrence along the coast of Pakistan are not present. Notably and 8 species namely Nerita adenensis, Cerithium zonatum, Perna picta, Nerita sp., Terebra nassoides, Phapia undulata, Nassarius (Plicarcularia) fissilabris and Gyroscala lamellosa were found and identified for the first time in Pakistan.
