The development of zoological investigations in the Black and Azov Seas during the postrevolution period is regarded. The key of the invertebrate fauna was worked out, monographs on fishes were written, studies of biocoenoses, biological structure and productivity of the seas and investigations in the fields of ecological physiology, functional morphology and radioecology of many animal species were carried out. The main directions and results of Soviet zoological investigations in the Mediterranean and Red Sea, in the tropic zone of the Atlantic Ocean and in Cubanian waters are also given.
