The species has an attached (f. verrucosa) and two unattached (f. procerrima and f. lycopodioides) forms which differ only insignificantly in the anatomy but markedly in the thallus size, the length and number of lateral branches. G. verrucosa is usually found on mollusc shells at 12-15 m deprth; it is a component of the phytocenosis G. verrucosa + G. dura + Nereis filiformis. G. verrucosa f. procerrima and f. lycopodioides grow at 310 m depths on sandy-silty flats in semi-closed bays; they were also found in the lower stratum of seagrass phytocenoses. As the species occupies unfavourable environment (silty bottom, large depth, poor illumination), it has lost the capacity for sexual and asexual breeding. The unattached forms reproduce only vegetatively.Дана анатомо-морфологическая характеристика черноморской Gracilaria verrucosa (Huds.), ее прикрепленной (f. verrucosa) и двух неприкрепленных форм (f. procerrima и f. lycopodioides).
