First achievements of the OBS (later, Odessa Branch of the Institute of Biology of Southern Seas) in the field of biology of the north-western part of the Black Sea, coastal wetlands and the influence of the river runoff on marine ecosystems are listed.Рассматривается история организации Одесской биологической станции (ОБС) и ее становления как научного учреждения Академии наук Украины.
