Differing from marine biology, aimed to the learning of just biological laws, biological oceanography studies corresponding aspects in existence of the ocean and its large ecosystems. It has been shown, that the most important works in the discussed aspect were fulfilled with the help of modern vessel and modern equipment. Perspectives for the biological oceanography in the institute are tightly connected with the destiny of the r/v “Professor Vodyanitsky”.Представлен сжатый обзор истории развития исследований по биологической океанографии в институте (к 135-летию СБС-ИНБЮМ). В отличие от морской биологии, нацеленной на познание собственно биологических законов, биологическая океанография изучает соответствующие аспекты существования океана, его крупных экосистем. Показано, что наиболее важные работы обсуждаемого направления выполнены с помощью современного судна и современного оборудования.
