Within its large range of occurence it is presented by a number of biologically specific populations with their morphological, physiological and ecological peculiarities. Localization of the accumulation spots fairly depends on the oceanographic conditions: through the year they move along the African shore, keeping the water temperature within 18-21°C range. At the equatoriai area the productivity rate is constant through all the seasons.Представлены данные по размерному и возрастному составу, размножению, росту, продолжительности жизни и питанию O. pteropus. Выделены три биологически специфичные популяции. Сделана попытка объяснить закономерные изменения размеров кальмаров действием различных форм естественного отбора.ru
