In spring 1999 the gelatinous macroplancton comprised 2 medusae and 2 ctenophores. Revailing species were the medusa, Aurelia aurita and the ctenophores, Mnemiopsis leidyi and Pleurobrachia pileus. A. aurita dominated (81,6%), the portion contributed by the two ctenophores was considerable only in the open sea. Quantitative distribution of the gelatinous macroplancton varied from 0,7 to 1537 g m-2. High biomass was measured near the western coast of the Crimea (Sevastopol and Tarkhankut), minimums were found near the southern coast. In comparison with spring 1995, the composition of macroplanctonic community has changed significanthy owing to increased share A. aurita and P. pileus coupled with simultaneous drop in relative biomass of M. leidyi and the reduction of gelatinous macroplancton total biomass. Dynamics of the situation with gelatinous macroplancton near the Crimean shore in 1995-1999
