The total concentration of carotenoids in these males is about 10-fold higher than that in females (81.42 mg · 100-1 g of dry weight). Studies of a high-quality composition allowed to distinguish 8 types of carotenoids: β-carotene, zeaxanthin, diatoranthin, (all-E)-alloranthin, (9Z)-alloranthin, (9Z,9'Z)-alloranthin, 7,8-didehydroastazranthin, 4-ketoalloranthin which make about 99% of the total concentration of pigments. Alloranthin is a basic carotenoid. These stereo isomers and esters of alloxanthin constituted 94% of the sum of all pigments. The high content of carotenoids esters (more than 40%) has been evaluated also. No differences are discovered in the high-quality carotenoids composition for males and females.
