Advantages of meiobenthos in monitoring studies of seawater areas under the conditions of increased anthropogenic impact are discussed. Main stages of the activity of the Branch colleagues in the meiofauna study of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov are noted, the brief survey of basic publications is given. The role of Odessa Branch in the organization of the First All-Union Conference on Study of Meiofauna in 1989 is discussed.Рассмотрены предпосылки становления и развития нового направления морской биологии – мейобентологии - в Одесском филиале ИнБЮМ НАН Украины. Обсуждаются преимущества использования мейобентоса в мониторинговых исследованиях морских акваторий в условиях повышенной антропогенной нагрузки. Отмечаются основные этапы деятельности сотрудников филиала в изучении мейофауны Черного и Азовского морей, приводится краткий обзор основных публикаций. Особо выделена роль Одесского филиала в проведении первой Всесоюзной конференции по изучению мейофауны в 1989 г.ru
