On the strength of research on the fouling composition and fouling process in the sea a preliminary list of fouling organisms is compiled. It is noted that a fouling process takes place on various substrata with varying intensity. Stainless steel plates are covered more quickly than glass plates. The initial growth rate of Balanus is higher on stainless steel plates and lower on glass plates. With respect to fouling intensity the Cuban waters occupy third place after the Black Sea and the North-American coast (Florida). As a result of investigating resistance of fouling organism larvae (Balanus, Bryozoa) against the effect of various toxicants and leaching toxins it is established that fouling organism larvae are more sensitive to toxis action under conditions of the Cuban waters than the Black Sea species. For them a 0.1% concentration of Zn and Cu toxicants in sea water is lethal, the Black Sea larvae live under conditions of that concentration for a more or less long time. High toxicity was shown by leaching toxins from anti-fouling paints both under laboratory conditions and in the sea directly.
