The number of sound-scattering layers (SSL) in the south-western part of the anticyclonic circulation of the Southern Atlantic increased from the equatorial water mass south-westward. Most frequently three distinctly pronounced SSL were observed, but in regions with elevated level of biological production their number riched seven. Diurnal vertical distribution of SSL was characterized by their sinking to the depth in the morning and upwelling to the surface in the evening.
