The cytochrome system in different tissues of Mytilus galloprovincialis has been studied. It was found that the cytochrome system is more developed in the liver and less in muscles. Hepatopancreas and gells (ctevidia) exhibit a higer activity of cytochrome oxidase as compared to exhibit muscles. It found at all, the cytochrome oxidase from the mussel is relatively non-specific, the enzyme playing a subordinate role in tissue respiration.en_US
