A step-by-step progress is described in oceanographic research initiated by V.A. Vodyanitsky and conducted in the Mediterranean Sea by scientific staff of IBSS. Studies were made in Bosporus, Tunisia Strait, the Strait of Otranto and Bab el Mandeb. Special attention has been focused on the near-Bosporus region. History of research and an overview of concepts about interactions between Mediterranean and Black Sea waters are given.
