Abstract
Description
The quantity and biomass of bacteria in the Atlantic waters of Antarctic averaged 300 000 cells/m2 and 9.7 mg C/m2 of the photic layer, respectively. The biomass of bacteria in the Indian Ocean waters was 16.0 in January and 20 mg C/m2 in February. The low destruction rate of the organic matters promotes their intensive accumulation during vegetative period.
