In the year 1934—1935 a number of horizontal. catches was made in the region of the Bay of Novorossiysk by means of tow-nets with the purpose of studying the systematical characters of the pelagic larvae and post-larvae as well as their distribution. On the basis of this material the following is to be noted. In January and February the larvae and post-larvae were not observed in the catches. In March there were met the larvae and post-larvae of the Clupeidae family (Spratella sprattus phalerica (Risso) and Gadidae (Gadus euxinus Nordm), the single specimens of the latter occuring also in April. In May there were met in the catches the larvae and post-larvae of the family of Atherinidae, Blenniidae, Gobiidae, Labridae, and Gobiesocidae (in the end of May). In June there were added to the mentioned larvae some forms of the fam. of Engraulidae, Callionymidae, Sparidae(?) and Belonidae. In August and September the larvae of Labridae, Sparidae and Belonidae were not encountered any more. In October the catches grew sharply poorer, there were met almost exclusively only single specimens of the post-larvae of the Gobiidae family. In November the larvae of the Clupeidae family (Spratella sprattus phalerica) and single specimens of larvae of the Gadidae family (Onos tricirrata Bloch) in early stages—appear anew. The greatest quantity and variety of larvae and post-larvae was observed in the catches in the period from May to September it being noticed that some species were occuring more abundant in the night-catches (Gobiidae, Engraulidae).
