dc.descriptionSome organic poisons forming a part of antifouling paints have been studied for their effect on the activity of enzymes carbohydrate metabolism in the muscular tissues of mussels and barnaeles. Sulphocyanic methylene, 10-chlorphenoxyarsine and thributyl stannic oxide have exerted the most inhibitory action, that is in agreement with the data available in literature on the high toxicity of these compounds for the fouling organisms. Different sensitivity of both the initial and the end enzymes of the carbohydrate catabolism to the poison action is stated. Activity inhibition of malate dehydrogenase and lactate dehydrogenase is observed for the poisons listed, that may decrease the activity of glycolysis at the expense of disturbance in homeostasis of pyridine nucleotides in the tissues.en_US
