A characteristic is given of the quantity and biomass of bacterial population in shelf regions and deep water stations. The shallow waters in the south of the Gulf of Mexico (shoal of Campeche and shelf of Campeche Bay) proved to be the most abundant in bacteria life. The average bacteria quantity in 1 m³ in 0-25 m layer was 2.5 times higher in shaklow water stations than in deep water stations in similar layer. Along the vertical, the main mass of bacterial population is concentrated in 0-100 m layer gradually decreasing with depth. Some increase in general quantity of bacteria was observed at depths of 200-500 m in the east of the Gulf of Mexico. Biomass distribution in aquatorium as well as in depths was subordinate to laws noted for the general bacteria quantity.
