Abstract
Description
On the basis of studying the qualitative composition of food, P. elongatus is attributed to phytophages. The peculiarities of its nutrition at different stages of development are shown. It grazes Diatomaceae prefering alga to 10μ in diameter. The nutrition diurnal rhythm is closely connected with vertical migration of P. elongatus and illumnation. They are most active in feeding at dark time when they are near the surface, in the daytime they almost do not eat.
