The calorific values of the total plankton were determined in the Gulf of Mexico and at the Cuban bench (zone «C») by the method of direct calorimetry. The average calorific value of the plankton in the Gulf of Mexico was 5.001±0.255 Kcal per g of organic matter and that of bench plankton was 5.144±0.389 Kcal per g of organic matter. The difference is unreliable statistically. It can therefore be considered that the calorific value of 5.0 Kcal per g of dry organic matter is typical for the total plankton of Cuban waters. A dependence was discovered between the percentage of organic matter content in the plankton (X) and the calorific value of the latter (Y). This dependence is described by the equation Y = 0.0353X + 1.994. With an average calorific value of the total plankton of 5.0 Kcal per g of organic matter some plankton organisms can have higher indices of power value.
