Stereological examination of mussel sex glands showed that in optimal cultivating conditions vitellogenous oocytes dominate in the gonad before reproduction. Aggravation of cultivation conditions causes the decrease of the total volume of the sex cells, that is expressed in the declining of the GVF-index. The analysis of changes of this index is the efficient method of quality control.
