In this paper quantitative data are given on the distribution of bottom fauna in the uppe-sublittoral zone of the northwestern part of Cuba (zone «C»). Two regions are selected: the western region with prevalence of sandy ground and the eastern region with silty ground. The average content of benthos biomass is 55.30 g/m² in the western region and 36.23 g/m² in the eastern region. With respect to ground and vegetation four biotopes are distinguished in the zone «C»: biotopes of silty sand and sandy silt with thalassia, biotopes of sand and of silt. The greatest benthos biomass (69.14 g/m²) and numbers (616 per m²) are registered on silty sand with thalassia, the least biomass is registered on sand with thalassia (14.74 g/m²), and the least numbers are registered on sand (354 per m²). In the investigated region the average benthos biomass is 45.30 g/m², the average numbers are 524 per m², and the average fodder biomass is 8.95 g/m². Comparison of quantitative indices of benthos development in the upper sublittoral of the northwestern part of Cuba and in other basins of the World Ocean shows that the benthos biomass value in the investigated region may be considered as rather high.
