The filtration rate, diet and assimilibility in 7 size groups of mussels consuming natural suspension have been studied for a year. It is shown that the filtration rate parabolically depends on total and dry mass of body within the whole range of temperature and food conditions. Changes in filtration activity and quantity of feed consumed by mussels in annual cycle Have the form of unimodal curve with maximum іп September-October, when combining optimal temperature (17°C) and high enerhy value of suspension (4,5 cal/l). Efficiency of seston assimilation for a year in mussels of different sizes changes from 30 to 60 % of diet and does not depend on the temperature conditions and mass of mollusks. The causes of low intensity of filtration in mussels of the Sevastopol bay are under discussion.
