The respiration rate of the ctenophores Mnemiopsis leidyi, a new resident in the Black sea are examined in newly caught and unfed ctenophores during of annual cycle. The variability of respiration rate during the years was due to temperature and density of preys. The high food requirements of the ctenophores in the Black sea might be realized only in the areas of mass accumulation of zooplankton.
