Abstract

Черное море довольно подробно изучено в отношении состава микрофлоры, растущей на лабораторных средах. В настоящей работе приводятся данные, касающиеся морфологии, распределения численности и биомассы и возможного пищевого значения этих бактерий.

Description

1. The bulk of microorganisms in the hydrogen sulphide depths of Black sea is composed of bacterial threads with a fragmented protoplasmic structure. The average biomass amounts to 40 mgr рег 1 m3. 2. The unevenly stained portions of the protoplasm of the threads which have been mistaken by Sorokin for single bacterial cells are localized within a common envelope of the thread and hence cannot be conceived as chains of bacteria cells. 3. Sorokin’s contention that the «cell chains», that is to say filiform microorganisms, are thionic bacteria is not supported by microbiological evidence nor by the results of his own C14O2 studies. 4. In winter time when vertical mixing of waters increases appreciable numbers of filiform bacteria (up to 32 mg/m3) get from the hydrogen sulphide zone into the lower layers of the oxygen zone and may serve as additional source of nutrition for the migrating zooplankton-filtrators.
