Experimental data on oxygen uptake are considered for three species of the Black Sea fishes (mullet, umbrine, Spicara sparis L.) during swimming in a hydrodynamic tube at 15 and 20° С. It is shown that when swimming cruising speed is 40—80 cm/s, energy expenditures for active metabolism are 3-4 times as high as the intensity of basic metabolism and approximately proportional to the speed square.
